For solo travellers, the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Airport in Bohnsdorf is by far the cheapest option: a bed in a shared dorm costs from approx. 20–30 euros depending on the date, sometimes considerably more. You share the room with other guests (minimum age 18), and the breakfast buffet starts at 6:30 am. A private room in the same building costs from approx. 80–95 euros, which is already close to terminal-hotel territory.
When a 10-euro premium for terminal proximity pays off
A quick calculation: the Premier Inn Berlin Airport starts at approx. 79 euros, the IntercityHotel BER Terminal 1+2 right at the terminal at approx. 90 euros. With an early departure, that difference of about 10 euros quickly tips in favour of terminal proximity: buses such as lines 263 and 741 at the B&B Hotel stop running in the evening, and a taxi usually costs more than the saving; the Holiday Inn charges approx. 17.90 euros per person for its bookable taxi transfer. From the IntercityHotel, by contrast, you walk to the terminal in 2–5 minutes with no timetable risk. If everything looks expensive: alternatives
During trade fairs and holiday peaks, even budget properties can cost 100 euros or more. If you arrive by car, look at park sleep and fly packages: one night plus several days of parking is often cheaper than booking a budget hotel and a car park separately. Do I really need an ABC ticket for the short S-Bahn ride from a budget hotel to the terminal?
Often not. Berlin's short-trip fare covers up to three S-Bahn stops and costs 2.80 euros instead of 5.00 euros for a single Berlin ABC ticket (VBB fares valid from 1 January 2026). From Grünbergallee station (ibis budget, Premier Inn, MEININGER) it is three stops to Flughafen BER Terminal 1-2 via Flughafen BER Terminal 5 (shown as "Schönefeld" in the timetable) and Waßmannsdorf, which is just within the limit; from Terminal 5 (Campanile) it is two. The VBB tariff allows the short-trip fare on S-Bahn routes in zone Berlin C, but not on regional rail such as FEX, RE or RB, and it does not permit stopovers. Check current fares before you travel.
Is breakfast included in the cheap room rates at BER?
Usually not, at budget properties breakfast is normally an add-on. The B&B Hotel Berlin-Airport quotes 13.90 euros per adult and night, the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Airport also 13.90 euros, or 13.50 euros if you book it directly online. Premier Inn quotes 17.90 euros for its German hotels but points out that airport hotels can differ. Each chain handles it differently.
